An LCD wall mount is necessary to mount and LCD TV to the wall. They are sold separately from the LCD TV for an additional charge - although many retailers will include the wall mount with the television is they are running a special sale.

What is it?

Wall Mount Brackets

It is the device that holds the LCD on the wall. Typically, it comes in a kit, the kit usually contains wall brackets and the hardware required to mount the TV to the wall brackets. Usually, it is constructed out of tempered steel and is not bendable.

Types

There are three major types of mounts. The first type is the simplest and the easiest to install. A stationary mount does not move at all, once it is installed to the wall and the LCD TV is put in place there is no movement. The next type of mount is the swivel mount. This one moves from side to side, allowing the LCD TV to be moved from left to right for better viewing options, the installation for this type is a bit more difficult than the stationary type. The final type is the motion mount. The motion mount swivels from side to side and also can be moved up and down and on several angles this is the most difficult to install.

Cost

The cost is largely dependent on which model it is. The most expensive has the most motion. The least expensive is the stationary model. In most cases, the kit will run right around one hundred dollars and just a little extra for the better models.

Installation

Installation is a two person job, one person will have to help to lift the TV and place it once the installation of the mount is complete. A kit will come with step by step instructions for installation. A power drill will be useful in the process as will a stud finder.

An LCD wall mount is a necessary item to mount an LCD TV to the wall. Mounting the LCD TV to the wall is very trendy and opens up the floor space as well.

Plasma and LCD TV Stands, Cabinets, and Wall Brackets

When you make the investment of purchasing a LCD or plasma TV, it's best to decide on and buy something that will help display your television and protect it at the same time. There are several different items that will work for this.
Wall Mount Brackets

There are TV wall brackets that you can purchase that will mount your LCD or plasma TV on a wall for you. There are a few different varieties of these wall mounting brackets. There are low-profile TV wall mount brackets, tilting wall mounting brackets and full-motion wall mount brackets.

Wall Mount Brackets

Low profile brackets look and feel a lot like hanging a picture on a wall. Strong, metal brackets are braced to the wall, and your LCD or plasma TV hangs on top of them securely. You have to be sure about where you want to hang it because once it's up there, there's no adjusting, and it's hard to remove afterwards. Low-profile wall mounting TV brackets are the cheapest of the different types of wall mounting brackets, and they're the easiest to install, as well.

Tilting wall mount brackets are like low-profile TV wall mount brackets except for the fact that tilting wall mount brackets are adjustable in a side to side motion to make them easy to view from different positions. These brackets are in the moderately priced range. The difficulty of putting tilting wall mount brackets on the wall is comparable to the difficulty level of the full-motion wall mount brackets.

Full-motion wall mount brackets are basically arms that extend your television away from the wall, and they are on an axis that offers a full range of motion for your TV, making it viewable by adjustment from anywhere in the room. Full-motion wall mount brackets are the most complicated TV brackets to mount, and they are often the most expensive, as well.

There are TV stands that are made especially for LCD and plasma TVs. Some have mounting bars on the back of them, and some are made to fit a flat panel TV on them securely. You can find these stands in different materials. The mounted types of stands are usually made of metal. You can find a TV stand made partly of metal, and partly of wood. There's even a stylish looking TV stand made of glass and metal.

Another item that can be used to put your LCD or plasma TV on is a TV cabinet. There are TV cabinets made today to fit LCD and plasma flat panel style TVs. They come in wood, metal, and glass. There are TV cabinets that close up and hide your television when it's not being used. There are other styles of cabinets that look like book shelves. They hold your television, while displaying other items on their multiple shelves.

With all the different items available today to put your plasma or LCD television on, you can make your new TV blend seamlessly into your living area without allowing it to become a chunky eyesore.

The Universal TV Wall Bracket

When you purchase a TV, the package sometimes includes the TV bracket. The design and elegance might not be to your taste but functionally the wall bracket will hold the TV in place. Manufacturers try to cut costs by providing accessories that do the job but are not overly designed and expensive to produce. The TV manufacturer's primary concern is the television. The wall mounts are marketing aids to help sell their product. However, they should ensure the accessory's functionality and technical requirements are met with relation to the television. For instance, the TV wall brackets should be able to hold the size and weight of the TV. Cables and wires are sturdy and meet electrical specifications. As an added feature, the wall brackets could have boxes to contain the wires and cables. Consumers have different tastes and demands regarding their TV brackets and manufacturers cannot provide all types with the TV. In most probability, they will provide a fixed TV wall bracket which is specific to the brand and model that you bought. The difficulty with using their wall brackets is that it may be good for that specific TV model, and if some day you want to change models, you will have to go through the process of dismantling the existing TV mount and replacing it with a new one. In retrospect, you may be better off getting a universal TV wall mount.
Wall Mount Brackets

The universal TV wall mount for flat panel displays have a wall plate that attach to the wall or entertainment center and rails that attach to the back of the TV. The rails are used to fit into pre-drilled holes in the back of the display. Most displays have four or six holes in the back. The rails are usually two perpendicular arms with back-facing devices that connect to the wall plate. Once the plate and rails are in place, the TV can be put on the wall plate. You can center the television by sliding the TV left to right along the length of the wall plate. You can easily replace the screen by lifting the TV off the wall mount and putting a new one in its place. TV wall mounts are made of steel and designed to hold specific ranges of weight. The weight range is defined by the screen size. For instance, a flat panel wall mount could be defined as capable for a 26-42 inch with a maximum weight of 100 pounds while another may be rated at 42-50 inch with a maximum weight of 150 pounds. If you get larger displays, you might need wall plates that attach to two studs rather than one. These wall mounts are referred to as two-stud mounts. You need to use cement anchors if you want to mount the TV to a concrete wall. Lag bolts and other hardware accessories should be inside the mounting kit. Lag bolts are types of fasteners used for making mechanical connections between two pieces of wood to ensure they are held tight together. When used in concrete, you need a special insert called a lag.

Wall Mount Brackets

To have the appearance of a clean look, the flat screen display should be about one inch from the wall at most. Be sure to connect the wires and cables before mounting the TV as you might have difficulty installing the wires once the TV is mounted. Although you have a clean look, you cannot move the TV anymore. You must make sure the screen is at the correct height with optimum viewing range for all viewers. Other TV brackets provide additional features such as swiveling and tilting the TV while mounted. You might have to sacrifice the clean look for better functionality. The degree of tilt and extent of swiveling will depend on the model of the TV wall bracket. Since the arms may extend forward, it will expose the wall mount. The design of the wall mount should also be considered.

This mount fits the majority of displays in the 23-32" size range and some models up to 42". Specifically, it fits VESA 50 - 200 hole patterns and TVs weighing up to 65lbs. If you are unfamiliar with VESA patterns, these are square or rectangular patterns between 2 and 8 inches per side. How to Wall Mount a Plasma Or Lcd on a Plasterboard Wall

This is the way I wall mount a plasma or LCD TV on a plasterboard wall.

Firstly fit the tv bracket to the TV, ignore the wall mount part at this stage. Follow the bracket manufacturers instructions on what screws to use and use any washers supplied. Make sure the screws are tight but not over tight. The brackets I use are the long rail type which will most likely span two beams in a stud plasterboard wall.

Next decide where about on the plasterboard wall you want to mount the TV. Mark the center position on the plasterboard wall and a line where you want the bottom of the plasma to be. I use a spirit level to do this. If you are mounting it over a fireplace mark the middle of the mantelpiece and use the spirit level to take the line vertically up to where the center of the wall mount will go. To get the height of the wall mount, measure from the bottom of the plasma screen to the top of the "hook" part of the TV bracket. Now transfer that measurement to the wall. Measure from the line where you wanted the bottom of the screen to go to the distance you measured. This will ensure you get the plasma TV at the height you wanted it to be.

Now offer up the wall mount to the center line and the measured line for the height. Using your spirit level to make sure the wall mount is straight. Mark the holes on the wall.

There are two types of plasterboard wall. One is "dot and dab" where the plasterboard is stuck to the blockwork using an adhesive. The other is stud wall. You can tell if you have dot and dab by tapping the plasterboard wall. If there are solid sounding parts of the wall about 600mm apart then it is dot and dab. This is the preferable place to drill the holes. The reason for this is that when you tighten the screws the plasterboard doesn't pull in and crack. Normally if the bracket covers a couple of these solid bits then you will be OK. Make sure you fix the tv bracket here. If the TV bracket doesn't span two solid dabs then maybe you need a professional!

If the plasterboard wall is a stud wall, when you mark the tv bracket holes hopefully you will find at least one studs to fix to and therefore take the weight of the plasma or lcd. One is usually enough to take the weight seeing as most flat screen TV's are so light these days. Put a couple of extra fixings in anyway to stop the bracket slipping out of level. I normally use the butterfly type fixings for this. Make sure you have a least a couple of fixings into the wood though, if the wall was to get wet from a flood or leaking pipe and you didn't have fixing into wood the plasma or LCD would hit the deck!

When you are sure you have good fixings and the wall bracket is level you can hang your TV up.

TV Floor Stands Versus Wall Mounts

You have made an investment in a flat screen television. Now it is time to protect that investment from accidents. The design of the flat screen makes it easy for them to tip over and break. If you have children or pets you want to make sure you have the television mounted with a TV bracket. A TV bracket ensures the television cannot be knocked over. While it will not be protected from objects that might fly at it, you can at least feel secure the TV bracket is protecting your investment as much as possible.

You have two major choices when it comes to TV brackets. Among these two choices are a variety of styles for brackets. We will examine TV floor stands and wall mounts to help you decide which option might be best for you and your family. Let's start with the TV floor stands.

Wall Mount Brackets

TV floor stands will place the television at eye level for your entertainment room. With the floor stands you have TV brackets which will attach the TV to the stand to make sure it will not fall over. It is also going to give you a place to store your television components like surround sound, DVD player, game console, etc. Depending on the TV floor stand you may also have room for DVDs and game storage. The TV brackets used in a TV stand might be limited based on space in the stand. It might be possible to use a flat mount, cantilever or motorised bracket. A flat mount is stationary, where as the cantilever mount has arms which can extend the television out of the stand allowing it to swivel and tilt as needed. A motorised bracket also allows for movement of the television to get the best possible position.

The downside to TV stands is the space they take up on the floor. If you desire your floor space you may not want the television stand to be in the way. Unfortunately, depending on where you live you may not have a choice regarding the floor stand. Flats can make it impossible for you to use wall mounts if you let a property.

Wall mounts include flat mounts, swivel mounts, tilting mounts, cantilever mounts, and motorised brackets. These five TV bracket choices make it possible for you to choose VESA mounting that best suits your pocket book and your home. The mounts are fairly self explanatory in what they do, but we will offer a bit of information on each.

Flat mounts are the simplest allowing you to place the television on the wall without any movement of the TV. Once it is set on the wall it is at a specific angle. If you want more flexibility with the wall mount you have swivel or tilting mounts. These two designs allow you to change the television's position when required. For example, you might want the TV to swivel towards your dining area and back into the living room after a meal. It is possible with the swivel mount that has a small arm in the back. The degree of swivel is based on the size of the television and the arm the TV bracket comes with.

Tilting mounts generally work to tilt the TV up or down based on where you have it positioned. A good example of how to use this TV bracket is if you have a fireplace. The fireplace may be the centre of your entertainment room leaving the only place for the TV above the mantel. With a tilting mount you can position the TV so that you have the best angle. Since a regular flat mount cannot tilt you would definitely want something that allows you to place the TV at a downward angle in this situation.

Any of the TV brackets you decide you want are going to be VESA mounting. VESA is a video association which provides electronic standards for TV brackets. VESA mounting has a four screw style setup for the small televisions, as well as cable exits to help you attach the necessary components to your TV. Larger VESA mounts will have more screws to help hold the heavier TV to the wall without fear of damage. There are also VESA mounts for large TVs placed in floor stands. Depending on your home set up you may decide TV brackets for the wall mount is better than a floor stand. Keep in mind the TV bracket is your choice based on durability and quality.

How to Choose the Correct Flat Panel HDTV Wall Mount Bracket

With today's High Tech world changing how TV are made is mind boggling. Flat panel HDTVs are getting thinner and thinner and the manufacturers are going more with LED and 3D sets. The TV wall mount industry is finding itself making wall mounts that are more stylish and made of lighter yet stronger materials.

There are several styles to choose from such as fixed, tilt and full motion. There are even some starting to appear supporting the TV by cable, hanging it just like you would a picture.

Wall Mount Brackets

As the fixed mounts have evolved they are becoming more and more less bulky. There wall plate is of a more open design which is great for cable routing through the wall. Before there was sometimes only small hole cutouts in the back plate which would make cable routing a pain. Fixed styles are great in room where glare and TV height for viewing is not a problem. Some customers today want there TV to look like it is made onto the wall, for this a few mount manufacturers have came up with brackets that are as close to the wall as 0.31 inches.

Full motion also sometimes called articulating, cantilever and swivel styles are used where viewing angles could change drastically especially in larger rooms. Any of these styles are engineered either with a single arm or a dual arm. The dual arm by design is stronger than the single arm. Manufacturers keep in mind the size and weight of a flat panel when sizing it up. The amount of extension these arms extend can range from 3 inches and extend outward to as much as 37 inches. When mounting a full motion mount it is a must to attach to wood studs. Metal studs may not hold the amount of force being applied allowing the screws to pull through the metal. Stay away from metal studs. It is highly recommended to use a stud finder in locating the stud center. Hitting the stud center is the lifeline for achieving the mounts weight capacity limits in preventing pullout from poorly aligned lag bolts.

Tilt mounts themselves are getting closer to the wall as well. In the past tilt mounts would have the back of your TV from 4 to 5 inches from the wall. Now, you can find a tilt model that has a profile from the wall of just 1.65 inches. Another new feature becoming more popular is the fingertip adjustable tilt. In the past to adjust the tilt the vertical arms had knobs or screws to set to hold the screen at the desired angle. Now they have tension set screws that once adjusted you simply can push or pull on the top of the TV and it will stay in position.

To sum it up no matter which mount you choose read your owners manual prior to purchase or use a mount finder to help determine what is the correct VESA hole mounting pattern for your TV.

Flush TV Wall Brackets Installations Into Cement or Wooden Walls

A flush TV bracket is equivalent to a panel with several slots. The TV brackets are used to flush-mount the TV onto the wallboard. The panel is installed flush with the wallboard and the connection between the panel and the wallboard is plastered to create a uniform appearance on the wall. The TV can be mounted on the brackets and it will appear to be attached directly to the wall giving a cinematic effect to the room. This is accomplished by having the TV wall brackets flush against the wall and the TV hanged on the brackets of the mount. The space between the TV and mount can be fairly small, making the attachments barely unnoticeable. There are many models and types of TV wall brackets, and you should select a TV bracket that can hold the size and weight of the flat screen panel. The flush TV wall bracket is considered the simplest TV bracket to fit and install.

Prepare your tools and equipment before doing the installation. It is more difficult looking for a particular tool when you are in the middle of the installation process, and everything is askew in the room. The normal tools would be a level, stud finder, pipe and cable finder, drill with appropriate drill bits, nut and bolt wrench, epoxy glue and screwdrivers. All these tools might not be required but it is better to have them readily available should you need them. The level is to ensure the TV wall mount is even and straight on the wall. People without levels might use measuring tapes to get the exact distances and ensure the holes are straight and equidistant. The stud finder is used to find studs behind a wooden wall. If you are attaching to a cement or brick wall, you might not need it. The pipe and cable finder will help you locate cables and pipes behind the wall, ensuring you don't accidentally drill into them.

Wall Mount Brackets

The drill will facilitate your putting the holes into the walls. People who don't have drills use a hammer and nail to put holes in the wall. The wrench and screwdrivers are necessary to tighten the bolts and screws on the TV wall bracket and the TV onto the arms of the bracket. When you are ready, place the longer horizontal wall plate flush against the wall and mark the fixing point with an indelible marker. Be sure the wall mount is pressed against the wall, and is even and level to the floor and ceiling. There should be about six drill holes to fit the back plate to the wall. If your wall is wooden, make sure there are studs behind the wall where the holes are positioned. Plasterboards are not strong enough to hold the weight of the TV bracket and television. When drilling into the wall, be sure you avoid any pipes or cables that are behind the walls.

Once the holes are drilled, put epoxy glue into the holes and insert the six wall plugs. Screw the back plate to the wall ensuring everything is securely tightened. The glue is optional but highly advisable. It helps strengthen the hold of the screws onto the studs or block wall and minimizes the risk of the TV wall mount being ripped off the wall. Put the TV face down on a soft surface and fix the two bracket arms to the back of the television, tightening the bolts in place with washers and spacers, as needed. There should not be any problem placing the television on the wall mount as most, if not all television and wall mount manufacturers follow VESA standards. Be sure the cables and power wires are connected before hooking the TV over the wall plates. The process of installing the TV flush mount bracket is the same on wood and block walls. The main difference is the material the TV mount will be attached to. The same precautions should be followed, which is to ensure the TV wall bracket is firmly secured on studs or cement blocks.
